Piloting biometric payments based on fusion of iris and facial biometrics

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Mastercard, in cooperation with partners, has launched a biometric payment pilot in Poland. The solution is based on the fusion of iris and facial biometrics, making it possible to pay for purchases… with a glance! This is the first pilot of the Mastercard Biometric Checkout Program in Poland, which will make it possible to introduce standards for new payment methods. Cardholders will benefit from a wide range of biometric payment authentication methods, such as fingerprint, palm, face or iris scan.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Shoppers expect fast, convenient and secure payments. Biometrics responds to these needs by simplifying the process of finalizing transactions and providing a high level of security. With biometrics, consumers do not need to use either a physical payment card or their mobile device. The new form of payment is appreciated by 90% of consumers, according to a survey of those who have used this payment model. In addition, as many as 61.8% of those surveyed admitted that payment by glance is more convenient than other methods.

By expanding the range of options available, it improves the shopping experience for consumers.
