ABOUT THE PROJECT

Dynamic Air Cooling is a refrigeration and air conditioning technology developed in Poland that uses air as a refrigerant. The solution was created by DAC, a company based in Elbląg, and is intended for industrial, commercial, and eventually residential applications.

Unlike traditional compressor-based systems, DAC technology does not use synthetic fluorinated refrigerants. Cooling is achieved through a combination of thermodynamic and gasdynamic processes that allow air temperature to be reduced without using a conventional refrigeration cycle based on HFCs.

The company is developing the solution with industrial refrigeration, refrigerated transport, and HVAC systems in mind, among other applications.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Refrigeration and air conditioning are among the areas with growing demand for electrical energy. At the same time, many traditional systems use fluorinated refrigerants whose emissions can have a significant impact on the climate. Reducing energy consumption and replacing high-emission refrigerants is therefore becoming one of the important directions of development for the industry.

Dynamic Air Cooling addresses both of these challenges simultaneously. The working medium in the system is air, which means the technology eliminates the need to use HFCs.

According to data presented by the company and in the documentation of the project funded by the European Union, the solution can achieve approximately 30% higher energy efficiency than traditional compressor systems. This potentially allows both energy consumption and emissions associated with the operation of refrigeration installations to be reduced.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

The fundamental distinguishing feature of Dynamic Air Cooling is the use of ordinary air as a refrigerant. This eliminates the need to use fluorinated refrigerant gases and the associated risk of leaks and direct emissions to the atmosphere.

The technology uses a patented system of gasdynamic and thermodynamic processes. In the system, the internal energy of air is converted into kinetic energy, among other things, and then part of this energy can be recovered in a turbine and used to produce electrical energy.

The solution is covered by a patent in Poland, and a patent for the device has also been granted in the United States. The development of the project has also been supported by the European Innovation Council, which has enabled further work on bringing the technology to market applications.
