Officina Baltica

Officina Baltica
Modern maritime technologies and autonomous vessels

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Officina Baltica is a Polish deep-tech startup based in Gdynia, developing cutting-edge maritime technologies and autonomous vessels (USVs – Unmanned Surface Vehicles). The company is creating a complete ecosystem for collecting and analyzing environmental data, operating in a SaaS-like model: customers do not buy the hardware, but use the measurement service and data processed by Officina Baltica. Their solutions enable oceanographic, hydrographic and environmental surveys without the need for large, expensive survey vessels. The unmanned craft under development, which are about 3.5 meters long, can make precise acoustic, chemical and bathymetric measurements in areas that are difficult to access or require high security. The startup cooperates with universities (including the University of Gdansk), maritime foundations (e.g. MARE) and scientific units, combining expertise in mechanics, electronics, computer science and oceanography.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Officina Baltica introduces a breakthrough in marine research, reducing costs and barriers to entry through the use of small, autonomous vessels that allow research to be conducted much more cheaply and quickly than traditional research vessels. The system provides continuous, automated access to environmental data from offshore and coastal areas, enabling continuous and precise data acquisition. The autonomous units enhance the safety of operations by eliminating the need for human presence in harsh conditions at sea. The solution is also environmentally friendly, with low fuel consumption and no need to maintain large vessels. Officina Baltica’s technology is dual-use, meaning that it can be used for both civilian purposes, such as monitoring the environment and maritime infrastructure, and in the defense sector.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Officina Baltica is introducing an innovative service model – instead of selling the vehicles themselves, the company is offering a measurement service and access to processed data in a SaaS formula for the maritime sector. It’s a comprehensive end-to-end solution in which hardware, software and data analysis form an integrated ecosystem to support users in every stage of their work. The project is an example of Polish deep-tech in the maritime industry, combining the competencies of engineers, programmers and oceanographers. The technology is fully scalable and mobile – autonomous units can operate in a variety of environments, from the open sea to bays, harbors and lakes. Officina Baltica also collaborates with science and the public sector, carrying out joint research projects with foundations and scientific institutes, supporting the development of a national innovation ecosystem.
