ABOUT THE PROJECT

WaterSense is revolutionizing the monitoring of inland water quality. The system provides real-time warnings of threats to ecosystems. Environmental change forecasts provided by WaterSense enable rapid, informed decisions to prevent potential disasters. By integrating autonomous WaterStations (continuous monitoring) with advanced WaterSensors (innovative solutions that guarantee long-term accuracy), the WaterCloud platform (an AI-based model for analyzing massive data sets) and the Water Forecast model (the world’s first AI model for accurately forecasting water quality parameters), the WaterSense system allows for ongoing, accurate detection of trends and anomalies.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Currently, inland water quality is mostly monitored manually, leading to sporadic measurements that do not reflect the full dynamics of changes in aquatic ecosystems. More frequent and automated measurements are needed to accurately reflect inland water processes. Available systems do not match the conditions of the freshwater environment, are not energy efficient, and their analytical models are severely limited. WaterSense’s integrated system offsets the above disadvantages by introducing innovative solutions to ensure continuous and efficient assessment of inland water quality.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

The WaterSense project was created to help meet the European Union’s ambitious environmental goals, responding to projections that up to 90% of EU rivers could fail to meet required water quality standards by 2027. The catastrophic events on the Oder River in Poland in 2022 are a stark warning and underscore a broader problem across Europe – a critical lack of technological solutions for continuous monitoring of inland waters. WaterSense aims to fill this gap by providing a scalable, efficient and intelligent system capable of revolutionizing water management.
