ABOUT THE PROJECT

Fakro is a Polish company that has been designing solutions for modern, comfortable, and energy-efficient construction since 1991. It is one of the largest manufacturers of roof windows in the world, with its products reaching over 70 countries.

The company creates, among other things, roof and facade windows, light tunnels, loft ladders, doors, and intelligent external awnings. All these solutions share one goal: to reduce energy consumption in buildings, better utilize daylight, and ensure comfort for residents both in winter and summer.

An example is the energy-efficient Greenview roof windows. Their design limits heat loss from the building, improves airtightness, and helps reduce the amount of energy needed for heating rooms. The low carbon footprint associated with their production has been confirmed by the Carbon Footprint Approved certificate.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Buildings consume enormous amounts of energy for heating, cooling, and lighting. Therefore, the green transformation cannot rely solely on new power plants and renewable energy sources. Homes, offices, and public facilities that use this energy much more efficiently are also needed.

Fakro responds to this need by creating products that help reduce heat loss in winter and overheating of rooms in summer. External awnings stop solar radiation before it reaches the glass, meaning air conditioning can be used less frequently indoors. The company also offers automatic awnings powered by their own solar panel, which can react to changing weather conditions.

Light tunnels bring natural light into corridors, bathrooms, and other rooms where traditional windows cannot be installed. This reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Pro-ecological activities also include the production method. Fakro uses energy from its own photovoltaic installation, modernizes its machinery, reduces resource consumption, and develops processes aimed at minimizing the company’s environmental impact.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Fakro’s greatest strength is the combination of global scale with its own Polish technological expertise. Over 100 engineers work on new solutions, and the company holds over 100 patents and patent applications.

Fakro does not design individual products in isolation from the entire building. It creates a system where windows, their installation method, external awnings, light tunnels, and loft ladders collectively help reduce energy loss and improve residents’ comfort.

The company’s advantage also lies in its own research and development facilities. Products are tested for airtightness, durability, weather resistance, and energy efficiency. Thanks to this, solutions developed in Nowy Sącz can compete in the most demanding markets worldwide.

Fakro also pays attention to the origin of materials. In production, it uses wood from sustainable and controlled sources.
