ABOUT THE PROJECT

VIGO Photonics is a European manufacturer of epitaxial layers and instruments for photonics and microelectronics, headquartered in Poland and with a division in the United States. The company supplies advanced infrared detectors covering the wavelength range from 1 to 20 µm, reaching fundamental BLIP limits without cryogenic cooling. The company’s portfolio includes epitaxial layers, infrared detectors, detector modules and infrared arrays, all with excellent performance and high uniformity. For nearly four decades, all products have been designed and manufactured in-house, using unique technology.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Mid-infrared is expanding human capabilities, making it possible to detect chemical compounds, temperature, and determine the size and distance of measured objects. It also facilitates the monitoring of many vital body parameters, which is crucial for the future detection of serious diseases. VIGO Photonics’ detectors are widely used in industry, for example, to measure real-time temperature or the chemical composition of gases and liquids, control the power and beam shape of industrial lasers, and identify hazardous substances in air and water.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Unique technology defines VIGO. The company was the first to develop uncooled infrared detectors and continues to expand this field. VIGO Photonics’ detectors support advanced systems, including NASA’s Curiosity rover and military thermal imaging cameras in partnership with PCO. VIGO engineers are currently developing integrated mid-infrared photonic circuits (PICs), creating a full value chain and infrastructure for large-scale circuit manufacturing for compact sensor systems.
