ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ultraleggera – the world’s lightest aluminum chair and manifestation of FiDU’s proprietary technology with Red Dot Award and MATERIALICA Design +. Designed by Oskar Zięta and manufactured in Poland, this chair weighs just 1,660 grams and can withstand loads of up to 1.2 tons. It is created from a single sheet of recyclable aluminum, which is formed by internal pressure. Its mono-material construction, stackability and record-breaking lightweight ratio (weight-to-strength ratio) make it a breakthrough in thinking about material efficiency and the future of design.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Ultraleggera addresses the challenges of overconsumption of raw materials, complex designs and difficult recycling in the furniture industry. The monomaterial mold of aluminum allows for full recovery of high-quality material, without dismantling components. The object’s ultralight weight makes it easy for children and the elderly to use. Its weight and stackability (ability to be safely stacked on top of one another) reduces transportation and storage costs. Ultraleggera is a circular product that reduces metal and energy consumption, and can be recycled multiple times, the essence of a sustainable transformation towards a closed-loop economy.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

The Ultraleggera combines extreme lightness (1.66 kg) with a carrying capacity of 1.2 tons – parameters unparalleled in the world. It is manufactured using proprietary FiDU technology, developed in Poland, which enables energy-efficient, scalable and monomaterial production of metal objects. The stackability of the chair increases functionality in public spaces, The chair is fully recyclable and long-lasting. The object is a representation of the idea of sustainable development, the “less is less” approach, constant reduction and optimization, which identifies the competitiveness of Polish innovation.
