ABOUT THE PROJECT

NSIS (National Satellite Information System) is a national platform launched by the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) that integrates satellite data, monitoring products and analytical tools in one place. The system is used to receive, store, process and share satellite data along with the necessary infrastructure.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

NSIS addresses the need for easy, central access to satellite data and analytical tools that support data-driven decision-making. It facilitates the use of Earth observations in public administration, local governments, science and business – in the areas of environment, climate, urban planning, security and emergency management, among others. The platform organizes distributed resources, lowers the barrier to entry and speeds up work with satellite data.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

NSIS is distinguished primarily by its “3-in-1” approach, because it combines a data access portal, a “service marketplace” and an extensive knowledge base in a single platform, so that users can not only download satellite products, but also find the tools and support to use them more quickly. An important advantage is an easier start thanks to thematic “map compositions” that organize resources and help less advanced users work with them as well, and an additional advantage is the ability to perform basic spatial analysis directly in the portal – without having to transfer data to external environments. The system also gains value by integrating data from other national and European services, which reduces the dispersion of resources and expands the range of available information. At the same time, NSIS supports the development of an ecosystem of providers, as the “Service Marketplace” connects users’ needs with ready-made solutions – both commercial and open source – promoting companies’ offerings and facilitating implementations. The whole is reinforced by a strong educational component: a knowledge base, training materials and tools tailored to different levels of expertise, which lower the barrier to entry and increase the real use of satellite data.
