CuAgWire

CuAgWire
Low loss power cable based on CuAg alloy

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The innovative solution, protected in 16 European countries, uses the positive conductivity properties of copper to reduce power transmission losses in power lines. The technology consists of a low-loss core based on copper and silver, which is braided with aluminum to form an innovative cable for 110 kV overhead lines.

The positive properties of these two metals make it possible to reduce power transmission losses by more than 20%. These parameters have been confirmed in real conditions on the line in use. This technology can provide a solution to the country’s current power transmission problems.

WHAT NEEDS DOES THE INNOVATION ADDRESS?

Poland’s current electricity grid is heavily depleted and in urgent need of modernization. Connecting numerous renewable energy-based installations results in cyclical overloading of the grid. This is particularly evident among households. Replacing the lines with the solution in question will significantly increase the amount of energy that can be transmitted without having to upgrade the rest of the infrastructure. On a national scale, this can bring beneficial results. In addition, it will reduce the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. Finally, the use of copper and silver can provide the country’s resource base for scrap processing after the depreciation period of the lines.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

The product has significant competitive advantages over standard steel-aluminum solutions. First of all, it has significantly higher conductivity. In addition, it guarantees high performance. It is geometrically and mass-compatible with current network infrastructure. Moreover, it has a higher core heat resistance, which means additional possibilities for increasing the current carrying capacity of the power line.

It is an environmentally friendly technology, using indigenous resources of raw materials. The main advantage is the high reduction in electricity transmission losses, which under specific conditions can reach up to 40%.
